Rick Silberman

Rick is employed as a Sergeant with the North Miami Beach, FL Police Department (NMBPD). Rick started his career with NMBPD in 1991 on patrol. After a stint working undercover money laundering operations, he served as an FTO prior to becoming a Corporal in 1997. While in this capacity, Rick supervised Patrol, Community Policing, and then Personnel & Training.

Rick was promoted to Sergeant in 2000 where he went back to the patrol division. In 2003, Rick was selected to take over the Internal Affairs Unit along with several other administrative responsibilities including supervising: Asset Forfeiture, Property & Evidence, Off-Duty coordination, Information Technology section, Fleet Services and Building Maintenance. Rick has handled many high profile and complex IA investigations during his tenure in IA.

Rick has been the agency’s domestic security intelligence officer since 1997, and a member of the Regional Domestic Security Task Force, as well as liaison to the JTTF for many years.  A former Police Instructor, Rick taught the following subjects: Aggressive Driving Enforcement, Lojack, and Death Notification.

Other items of interest: In 2007, Rick traveled to Israel to receive counter-terrorism training from members of the Israeli Defense Forces and Israeli National Police, as well as other critical infrastructure experts.

Rick has been a member of the NIAIA for over 10 years and has served as an Executive Committee member for the last several years, receiving the Recruiter of the Year Award in 2014 and 2015. Rick was elected 2nd Vice President of the NIAIA at the 2015 conference in Virginia Beach, VA, and ascended to the office of 1st Vice President at the 2016 conference in Charleston, SC.

In his spare time, Rick enjoys coaching youth baseball, fishing and spending quality time with his family and friends.
