As I write this article to the membership I have just completed a training session with the Atlanta Police Department, Georgia Tech, and the Georgia World Congress Center about campus shootings. I will echo the sentiments of Major Cal Moss of the Atlanta Police department and encourage each of you to take a moment from your lives for a moment of silence for the victims of the Virginia Tech shootings.

Today would have been many of their graduations. We never know when tragedy will strike in our communities or, reach out and touch us. Keep them, the brave officers, students, teachers, and families in your thoughts. We as police officers should remain vigilant in our efforts to combat crime on every beat. Be it a high crime area to a school campus we have to protect our most valuable resource, the children of this great nation.

We are posting the starting line-up for the conference on the web site. Please check it for your itinerary. We have not had any requests for the class “New to Internal Affairs” therefore, at this time it is on hold. If we have 20 participants for the half day class we will reconsider.

Congratulations to David McGill our VP in his recent move to adjutant to Deputy Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department. David will oversee various functions to include the internal affairs unit of LAPD. David is hanging in there with us and will continue to serve.

Secretary-treasurer Greg Lockamy is working hard on legalizing the association. He is to be commended for his efforts. He has vowed to have this done by the next conference.

I encourage each of you to come to the conference this year. It will be another good one. If you desire to bring next year’s conference to your city please let me know and start on your presentation to the association at the conference.

Thanks & blessings

Randy
